Seek First The Dominion

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;  and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  MATTHEW 6:24-33 NKJV

We major a lot on prosperity and finances. Why? Because we need these things to do our job as believers.

The reality is we require finances to fulfil our assignments in ministry. God’s people need money to do God’s business.

Notice from this discourse that Jesus begins in verse 24 by speaking about dominion. He says: “You cannot serve God and mammon.”

You are going to serve one or the other; there is no neutral zone you can escape to. Which means either you will be under God’s dominion or mammon’s.

Jesus makes it clear here that it is possible for you to end up serving money and not God. This means you can become a slave to your needs.

You do this by worrying i.e. meditating in fear. However, He shows us how to reverse this process in verse 33. We are to seek first i.e. make a priority the Kingdom of God. This means the dominion of God. In other words, God will give us dominion over the world system of need and lack. When this happens, the things we need and desire will be added to us.

The issue isn’t one of prosperity; it is one of DOMINION. Prosperity is the result of saturating your consciousness with the reality of your dominion in Christ.

In the world system, prosperity and wealth define your identity. Being rich gives you status and prestige. However, in God’s Kingdom you are a king and priest because you are His child. This entitles you to be funded at the level of royalty!

Jesus is saying here not to go after the stuff. Don’t pursue the things – pursue the deep understanding you require of your true identity and the things will pursue you!

This explains why some believers are not successful in manifesting prosperity – they are going after things. When you do this you are actually being need-conscious, not God-conscious and not dominion-conscious.

“Seek first the Kingdom… and His righteousness.” What does this mean? Well, when you understand righteousness you will have the key to receiving your needs met. Righteousness means “right” or “right-standing.” In other words, the righteousness of God gives you right-standing with Him. This means the ability to stand in His Presence without fear, condemnation, guilt or shame.

When you have this right-standing, you then have the right to receive what is rightfully yours! What is rightfully yours? Whatever He promised. What did He promise? ALL THESE THINGS shall be added to you!

You have the right to expect God to meet your needs on the Solomon level of abundance or above! “How much more” levels of supply belong to you (see Matthew 6:28-30)! Also, you are blessed with faithful Abraham so Abrahamic levels of supply are what you can expect (see Genesis 12:1-3; Genesis 13:1,2; Galatians 3:9,14,29).

David understood this:

Let them shout for joy and be glad who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, “Let the LORD be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.” PSALM 35:27 NKJV

In other words, David was saying “Let them shout for joy and be glad WHO ARE PROMOTING MY RIGHT TO PROSPER!”

Prosperity is based on right. Right is based on authority. Authority is another word for dominion!

You can only prosper if you have a right to. You can only have a right to if someone authorises you. Where is the believer’s authority in the financial realm? 2 Corinthians 8:9 is the scriptural foundation of believers’ right to prosper. Being rich is the express purpose and will of God.

“What about the love of money?” someone will ask. “What about it?” is my reply. The love of money comes from a neglect of Jesus’ command to seek first God’s dominion in Matthew 6:33. People with money-lust are in bondage to the world system of need and lack. They are not acting like God’s dominion people. They are pursuing things instead of following Jesus. They are dominated by mammon instead of exercising Kingdom authority.

So how can the believer manifest financial wealth, then? By focusing on dominion, not the things that signify wealth and prosperity; by understanding his/her right to get money based on being seated in heavenly places in Christ;by being Kingdom-wealth minded.

Your authority in Christ is your ticket to all your desires and needs being met!
